Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born July 8, 1989 in Paris. In her early years, she went to the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was just six when she realized she wanted to become an actress. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. As early as age ten she was involved and performed the main role in several Stagecoach Productions and School Plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents through her Oxford teacher. After eight auditions consistently, director David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast for the roles of the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film is 2001's top production, and it broke records at the opening as well as the first weekend. The film was praised by critics and the performance of three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma received five nominations for her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of a Film.
